Samchem is a leading industrial chemical distributor in Malaysia and SEA.
Established in 1989 to trade Polyurethane in East Malaysia, Samchem has since expanded its range of products to include Intermediate and Specialty Chemicals and has become a market leader in Malaysia. On 23 June 2009, the Company was listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia as Samchem Holdings Berhad with its headquarter in Shah Alam, Malaysia. By 2015, it has established a regional network with offices and warehouses across Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore and Cambodia.
In its early history, Samchem chose to work with major global producers – Shell, ExxonMobil Chemical, BASF, and Petronas – as these were the companies investing in the region and this has proven to be sustainable. Today, these MNCs are in even stronger partnership with Samchem in ASEAN countries as over the years, these MNCs have come to trust Samchem as a reliable partner to help execute and achieve their expansion plans.
The Company ventured into Vietnam in 2007 to set up a sales operation in Ho Chi Minh City. Today, Samchem is a key player and one of only 3 major petrochemical distributors in Vietnam, with offices and warehouses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. In 2014, Samchemsphere Vietnam reached another milestone when it obtained an investment license and converted to a Joint-Stock Company (equivalent to a Public Limited Company).
In 2014, a subsidiary was incorporated in Cambodia. The company is looking into expanding to Myanmar and Laos in the next three to five years to complete its presence in Indo China.
With proven successes in Malaysia and Vietnam, the Company extended its reach to Jakarta, Indonesia. PT Samchem Prasandha was incorporated in 2010 and since then, resources were channelled to the subsidiary to build up a strong infrastructure and marketing network. Today, we have offices and warehouses located in Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan, with businesses in several emerging industrial areas in Indonesia (Semarang, Pontianak).
In 2015, in acknowledgement of Samchem’s capability and proven track record, the company was awarded distribution rights to represent Petronas Chemicals in Singapore, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, thus expanding the Company’s coverage beyond ASEAN.
Samchem’s existing business focus in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia (and soon, Myanmar) reach out to a combined population of 452 million (70% of ASEAN) which gives the company much potential to expand and grow and contribute to the economy of these respective countries.
Samchem’s management team, with continued focus on chemical distribution and the backing of the largest petrochemical companies in the world will lead the company in its journey to become the leading chemical distributor in the region.
